Add a Payment Method to Your WhatsApp Business Account
What is this?
Before Meta can charge you for WhatsApp conversations, your WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) needs a valid payment method. This guide shows you how to add a credit or debit card in Meta Business Manager and link it to your WABA.
🚨 Important:
Meta does not accept prepaid or virtual cards. If you see the error "The card type you entered isn't supported. Try a different card", use a regular physical credit or debit card instead. See the troubleshooting section at the bottom for more.
⚙️ How to add the payment method
Step 1: In Meta Business Manager, click Billing and Payments in the left sidebar.
Step 2: Click Payment Methods in the sub-navigation.
Step 3: In the Add Business Payment Method section at the top, click Add.
Step 4: In the Debit or credit card dialog, enter your card details: cardholder name, card number, expiration date (MM/YY), and CVV. Click Save.
Step 5: Once saved, select the WhatsApp Business Accounts tab at the top of the page (next to Ad accounts and Meta Verified accounts).
Step 6: From the dropdown on the right, choose the specific WhatsApp Business Account you want to link the payment method to.
Step 7: Click Add payment method at the bottom to link the card to this account.
You're all set and good to go! Meta will use this card for your WhatsApp conversation fees going forward.
⚠️ Troubleshooting: "The card type you entered isn't supported"
Meta only accepts standard credit and debit cards issued by a bank. The following card types are not supported:
Prepaid cards
Virtual cards
Gift cards
If you see this error, try a different physical credit or debit card. The card must be issued by a bank and linked to a billing address.
Good to know: The error appears directly below the card number field and is shown in red. The card number field border also turns red. If you are unsure which card type to use, contact your bank to confirm whether your card is a standard credit or debit card.
