Overview
If you want to remove contacts from your billing, you should not delete them, but instead opt them out. 👉 Important:- Do not delete contacts unless there is a specific reason
- Deleting removes them permanently and makes future changes impossible
- Opt-out is enough to ensure they are not billed anymore
Method 1: Opt-Out via Contact List
Step-by-step
- Go to Contacts
-
Apply filters, for example:
- Single opt-ins
- Specific tags
- Any other criteria
- Select all contacts at the top
- Click Take Action
- Choose Opt-out
- Confirm the action
- Contacts are opted out
- They will no longer be billed in the next billing cycle
Method 2: Opt-Out via Segments (Recommended for advanced filtering)
Segments allow you to use more advanced filters, such as:- Shopify data
- Klaviyo data
- Time-based conditions (e.g. older opt-ins)
Step-by-step
- Go to Segments
-
Create a new segment with your filters
Example:
-
Consent = Single opt-in
- timeframe (e.g. older than 2 weeks)
-
Consent = Single opt-in
- Click Save Segment
- Open the segment (3-dot menu)
- Select Bulk Actions
- Click Update Consent → Opt-out
Result
- All selected contacts are now opted out
- They remain visible in your list for transparency
- They will no longer be billed
Best Practices
- Use segments for regular list cleanups
- Define clear filters (e.g. inactive users, old opt-ins)
- Avoid deleting contacts to prevent data loss
