Recovering Abandoned Carts
In this guide, we’ll show you how to use Chatarmin and Shopify to set up automated WhatsApp messages that remind customers of their forgotten products, significantly boosting your recovery rate and revenue.

Results
Why should you use WhatsApp for abandoned carts instead of just email?
Higher Conversion: Click-through rates on WhatsApp are often 5x to 10x higher than traditional recovery emails.
Direct Feedback: Customers often reply directly if they encountered an issue during checkout, giving you valuable insights into friction points.
Immediacy: Since most WhatsApp messages are read within minutes, you reach the customer while their intent to buy is still peak.
Shopify Integration
The foundation of this flow is Chatarmin’s deep integration with your Shopify store.
Data Sync: Chatarmin tracks in real-time when a logged-in customer (or a customer who has entered their details) leaves the checkout without finishing the purchase.
Event Trigger: The "Checkout Abandoned" event serves as the automatic trigger for your message.
Message Creation
Before the flow goes live, you need to create your Template (the pre-approved message format).
Personalization: Use variables to automatically include the customer's first name.
The Product Link: Crucially, add a dynamic button that leads the customer straight back to their pre-filled cart.
Incentives (Optional): You can include a discount code (e.g., "Get an extra 5% off for a limited time") to nudge the buying decision.
Flow Creation
In the Chatarmin Flow Builder, you link the trigger to your message:
Select Trigger: Choose "Shopify Checkout Abandoned".
Set Delay: Do not send the message immediately. A delay of 30 to 60 minutes after the abandonment has proven to be the "sweet spot" in e-commerce.
Conditions: You can set filters so the message only sends if, for example, the cart value exceeds a certain amount.
Connect Message: Select your approved template and activate the flow.
Live Test
The video demonstrates the entire process end-to-end:
A mock purchase is started in the Shopify store and abandoned at checkout.
After the set delay, the smartphone automatically receives the WhatsApp notification.
Clicking the button takes the user directly back to the payment page—allowing them to complete the purchase with one tap.
Best Practice Tip:
Combine your Abandoned Cart Flow with your customer support. If a customer replies to the automated message (e.g., because a discount code didn't work), the query lands directly in your Chatarmin inbox, allowing your team to personally "save" the sale.
